SQL Server 2012 – 70-461 and 70-462 exams passed

Yesterday I found some interesting information on Prometric site – I passed 71-461 and 71-462 exams (will count as regular 70-461/462). I don’t know the exact scores, but I did it and I am really happy about it. I only wish now that I didn’t take more of the beta exams – I might as well be an MCSA/MCSE at the moment.
Results will appear on my transcript later, probably by the time I get the official confirmation e-mail from Microsoft, which takes up to few weeks.
Time to prepare for 70-463 and then upgrade to MCSE: DP – I wonder if it’s possible to do it this way – upgrade my MCITP DBA from SQL Server 2005 to 2008 (70-453), then earn MCSA: SQL Server 2008 (70-448), pass 70-463 to get MCSA: SQL Server 2012 and finally upgrade MCITP to MCSE: DP with 70-459.

      Hey Sunny,

there were about 3 hours available for each test. Most of questions were multiple selections test questions, some required putting elements in correct order, none of them were descriptive or simulation.
For preparation sources – I played with SQL Server 2012 since Denali CTP0 in my home lab, I also used SQL Server Virtual Labs. For querying exam (70-461) you might consider reading a book or two on SQL Server database design/querying. I didn’t use any books dedicated for SQL Server 2012, but there should be some available at the moment.

      Good luck with your preparations!
      Szymon

  2. Hey, a bit late reply, but congrats on the beta passes. Wish I realised them earlier. I didn’t do any!! However I did spot this 2 for 1 offer and I finally did 70-433 and 70-451 so I should get 2 vouchers for the upgrade exams (And I need 3 exams for MCSE; 70-457, 70-458 and 70-459).

You don’t need to do 70-448 unless you really want the MCSA 2008. You can upgrade MCITP 2008 straight to MCSE 2012 with 70-463 and 70-459. I don’t really see much point in the MCSA 2008. It would be nice if they had another upgrade path to MCSA 2012 with just one exam, but nope.

You have to notice though, that the MCITP 2005 -> 2008 upgrade test will be retired by the end of july, so you have only one month, if you’re really going to do this 2005->2008->2012 upgrade 🙂

I was thinking of doing the 2008 BI MCTS and ITPRO after the dev one, but since this doesn’t help me with anything in 2012 I think I wont be doing further 2008 tests.

  3. Hello,
I really want to get the microsoft certifications but the course prices are too high.. I was wondering if was possible to prepare myself and then go and take the test and only pay for the test fee.. I have the feeling I can do that.. but I have no idea how to prepare myself.. where to find the right material.. can you help me?

    1. Get yourself SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Evaluation (link), install it and play with all the features. It takes a lot of time to try it all but this way you will get a full coverage of the product.

      1. thanks, but I meant prepare myself for the test (the questions) all the theory stuff.. I have a lot o practice on SQL Server 2008
but I have no idea of what type of questions I would have to face doing the certification tests.

      2. I also had some practice on 2005/2008 – in this case you need to focus on all the new things in 2012 like AlwaysOn, contained databases, new T-SQL commands etc. You might want to spent a few hours reading BOL for 2012 to get an idea and then do some experiments. It worked for me.

  4. Hi! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and tell
you I truly enjoy reading through your blog posts.

Can you suggest any other blogs/websites/forums that deal with the same
    topics? Thank you so much!
